From Chaos to Control: Streamlining Kubernetes Ingress with Cilium - Presentation (45 min)

Scheduled: 09:00 - 09:45, Track 2

In today's rapidly evolving cloud native landscape, as businesses push more services online, the resulting increase in traffic and complexity makes Kubernetes ingress points critical bottlenecks that, without proper management, lead to slow responses, security breaches, and system downtimes, negatively impacting business operations.

This talk will explore the critical role of Kubernetes Ingress in managing external access to services within a cluster. Ingress is essential for defining fine-grained access rules, enabling external users to reach your applications while maintaining robust security and performance. Given its central role in application accessibility and security, optimizing Ingress is vital for any scalable, secure Kubernetes deployment.

The session will begin with an overview of the Kubernetes Ingress concept, its importance, and the challenges it presents in multi-tenant and large-scale deployments. From there, we will explore how Cilium’s Ingress addresses these challenges by utilizing its advanced eBPF-powered data path. The discussion will highlight key features such as the support for both dedicated and shared load balancer modes, seamless TLS termination, and backward-compatible support for traditional Kubernetes Ingress annotations.

This session will also include a quick demo where we will be hands-on with exploring Cilium’s ingress capabilities.
